Our History
Love Thy Neighbor
Flyin' Lion Ministries was born when parishioners of St. Mark's Episcopal Church who had culinary experience and felt the call to love their neighbors, were made aware of an employability gap for certain vulnerable members of our community which kept them from opportunities to improve their futures.
To this end, they created Flyin' Lion Ministries to open the church's kitchen space to members of the community in need of a helping hand to improve their employability by providing them requisite skills for positions in the culinary industry. Our doors are open to all those with a need and desire to participate, regardless of their religious beliefs, just as all individuals are God's people regardless of their faith.

History
2016-2018
From Idea to Plan
Chef Sue Bartlett and Reverend Sarah have an idea for a culinary-based ministry, develop a committee, and a plan for a new kitchen and fellowship space.
2019-2020
Breaking Ground
Through capital campaigns, grants, and fundraising, components come together, and we break ground on the Rafters building and commercial kitchen. Flyin' Lion begins selling baked goods at the Huntersville Growers Market throughout this year to sustain the program.
2021
Class Begins
In April 2021, our first culinary school begins. We quickly expanded to take students of different backgrounds, also offering translators for Spanish-speaking students. Many graduates have opportunities to work with our wedding catering team.
